General about bioethanol fireplaces

What is a RAIS bioethanol fireplace?

A RAIS bioethanol fireplace is a modern indoor fireplace that uses bioethanol as fuel. It is designed to create a vivid and atmospheric flame experience with high ease of use and safe, controlled operation.

Is a bioethanol fireplace a heat source?
RAIS bioethanol fireplaces emit heat and contribute to room comfort, but they are designed for decorative use and are not intended as a primary heat source.
Are RAIS bioethanol fireplaces safe?
Yes. RAIS bioethanol fireplaces are equipped with advanced safety systems that monitor temperature, operation and fuel levels. The fireplaces also feature an integrated CO₂ sensor that automatically shuts down the fireplace if CO₂ levels in the room become too high, ensuring a safe indoor environment.
Does the fireplace get hot?
Yes. During operation, parts of the fireplace can reach high temperatures, including glass surfaces and the top plate. Avoid touching during and immediately after use. Children and pets must be kept at a safe distance, and RAIS strongly recommends using an approved safety guard when the fireplace is in operation.
Does a bioethanol fireplace require ventilation?
Yes. Bioethanol fireplaces consume oxygen and emit CO₂ and water vapour. Therefore, adequate ventilation is required for safe operation. Please refer to the installation and user manual for further information and specific requirements.
How large must the room be?
There are requirements for a minimum room size of 45 m³ and sufficient air exchange to ensure safe operation. Please refer to the installation and user manual for all specific requirements and specifications.
Can I leave the fireplace unattended?
RAIS does not recommend leaving the fireplace unattended while in operation.

Fuel and operation

Which fuel should I use?
Only bioethanol with a purity of 96.5–97.5% may be used to ensure correct and safe operation.
Can I add fragrance or other liquids?
No. RAIS recommends using only pure bioethanol without additives. Other products may be dangerous and will void the warranty.
How do I start the fireplace?
The fireplace is started via the integrated control panel. Once started, the flame can be easily controlled via remote control or app. The system automatically preheats the bioethanol and ensures a stable and controlled ignition.
How long does start-up take?
A typical start-up takes approximately 4–5 minutes, after which the flame stabilises.
Can I adjust the flame?
Yes. The flame can be adjusted in multiple levels or set to ECO mode, which optimises consumption and heat.
How do I refill bioethanol?
RAIS bioethanol fireplaces are filled using the supplied automatic pump, which ensures safe and correct refilling. Refilling can only take place when the fireplace has cooled down.
Can I refill while the fireplace is in use?
No. Bioethanol must never be refilled while the fireplace is in operation or still hot. The fireplace must always be switched off and completely cooled before refilling. The system also includes a safety function that prevents refilling if the temperature is not within a safe range.
How long does a bioethanol fireplace burn?
Burn time depends on flame level and usage. With an average consumption of approx. 0.5 litres of bioethanol per hour at level 5, a RAIS bioethanol fireplace can typically operate for up to 16 hours between refills. ECO mode optimises consumption and extends burn time.
Does a bioethanol fireplace smell?
Yes. A bioethanol fireplace may emit a slight alcohol-like scent during operation. The experience depends on room size, ventilation and the bioethanol used.
What does a bioethanol fireplace emit?
A bioethanol fireplace primarily emits water vapour and CO₂. Proper ventilation is therefore essential for a healthy indoor environment.

Technology and safety

How does the automatic burner system work?
RAIS bioethanol fireplaces are equipped with an integrated automatic burner system that controls the supply and combustion of bioethanol. The system continuously monitors operation, temperature and safety to ensure a stable and controlled flame.
What happens if CO₂ levels become too high?
RAIS bioethanol fireplaces continuously monitor CO₂ levels and automatically shut down at elevated levels (5000 ppm) to ensure a safe indoor environment.
What happens in case of a power failure?
In the event of a power failure, the fireplace will automatically initiate a controlled shutdown, where the flame gradually extinguishes.

Maintenance

Does a bioethanol fireplace require much maintenance?
No. RAIS bioethanol fireplaces require minimal maintenance, as no soot or ash is produced.
How do I clean the fireplace?

The fireplace must always be completely cooled before cleaning. The exterior should be wiped with a soft cloth and suitable mild cleaning agents, such as lukewarm soapy water. Never use acidic, corrosive or abrasive cleaners, as these may damage the surfaces.

The glass can be cleaned using a Schott dry sponge or a fireplace-approved glass cleaner. When using cleaning agents, it is recommended to wipe with clean water afterwards to avoid residues that may burn onto the glass during the next use.

Does the fireplace require servicing?

No, but RAIS recommends regular inspection of components to ensure optimal performance and long service life.

Approvals and installation

Does a bioethanol fireplace require much maintenance?
Are RAIS bioethanol fireplaces approved?
Where can I install the fireplace?
RAIS bioethanol fireplaces are intended for indoor use and must not be installed in bathrooms, bedrooms or unheated rooms.

Freestanding bioethanol fireplaces

Do freestanding fireplaces require a chimney or flue?
No. RAIS freestanding bioethanol fireplaces require neither a chimney nor a flue, making them easy to place and integrate into existing spaces.
Can I move my fireplace?
Yes, but only when it is switched off and completely cooled. RAIS does not recommend moving the fireplace during operation or while still hot. It is also not recommended to move the fireplace with a full tank.
Where should it be placed?
The fireplace must be placed on a stable and level surface and positioned with the required safety distances to furniture and combustible materials.
Does it require electricity?
Yes. All RAIS freestanding bioethanol fireplaces are equipped with an integrated automatic burner system and therefore require a power supply for safe and controlled operation.
Can I use it in different locations in my home?
Yes, as long as installation requirements, ventilation and safety distances are respected.
