There are many things to consider when choosing a wood burning stove. It is really a matter of taste, but also of the possibilities in the room in which you want to install the wood burning stove. This is a hard question to answer. At RAIS, all our stoves and fireplace inserts live up to the strictest environmental and quality requirements. This means that with RAIS you have a wood burning stove that will last for years to come and that you can always get advice, help and guidance to get the most out of your stove.

The price of RAIS stoves varies significantly depending on the model and accessories you choose (e.g. CleverAir and the like). Contact your nearest dealer for prices.

As a rule of thumb, a modern stove heats 10 m2 per kilowatt. A 5 kW stove can thus heat up to 50 m2.

For a cottage (depending on the size), you can choose between all RAIS models. If the wood burning stove will be in a small room, it is a good idea to choose a stove with a small chamber (for instance RAIS Q-Tee).

Always check national legislation regarding the requirements your chimney must satisfy. There are different requirements regarding how much can be connected to the same chimney, the height of the connection and the distance to the wall behind the stove. If in doubt, contact your RAIS dealer.

No, unfortunately not. You must have a functioning chimney in order to install a wood-burning stove.

Some newer houses are so well insulated that it can be difficult to produce enough draught in the chimney. In such cases, you can connect external air, i.e. air introduced from outdoors instead of from the room. We call this system AirSystem, and it can be hooked up to all RAIS stoves.

There can be several reasons for odours from your wood burning stove. If it has not been used for some time, it can be charred dust and grime.

Smoke in the stove may be caused by insufficient draught in the chimney. Check whether the smoke duct or chimney is blocked. Soot on the outside of the wood burning stove is usually caused if the door is opened while the flames in the stove are still high. Always wait until the fire has died down before opening the door. It can also be because you opened the door too fast. Always open the door gently.

Always clean the wood burning stove when it is cold. Clean the outer with a dry or slightly damp cloth.

You can use almost any kind of wood as firewood. The key thing is that the wood is chopped and dry (drying time approx. one year).

You will need 3 – 4 large pieces of firewood. But most importantly, you will need plenty of kindling. That allows the fire to catch easier.

You should only burn wood in a RAIS wood-burning stove. There are different coke types and briquettes, but these types of fuel risk having heat values that are higher than wood and you may end up exceeding the maximum effect of the stove. This is called overfiring and can damage the wood burning stove. In case of overfiring, the warranty on a RAIS stove becomes void. Additionally, you should never use paper, cardboard and similar materials as fuel, as it can emit harmful fumes.

You can place a fireplace screen in front of the stove, so the children do not get too close to the hot stove.

When you use your wood burning stove, you should always open and close the door slowly. This way you avoid fanning the fumes from the stove out into the room and affecting the indoor climate. Moreover, you can add our AirSystem for your wood burning stove (external air supply), so the air to the stove is drawn in from outdoors. This way the wood burning stove doesn't affect the indoor climate in the room.

Wood-burning stoves are CO2 neutral, as the burnt wood gives off just as much CO2 as it would have done if it had rotted naturally.

All fires pollute in one way or another. However, with a wood-burning stove, the fire is controlled. In other words, a stove pollutes far less than an outdoor bonfire, for instance. RAIS wood burning stoves are subject to strict environmental and quality requirements, and we are constantly working on reducing emissions of particles from our stoves.
